I am the owner and sole upholsterer for Eisenberg Upholstery.

This October of 2010 will mark 25 years for me in furniture upholstery.

In these 25 years, I have mostly worked in Kitsap County, and can confidently say I am one of a few in the Puget Sound area who can claim the title of Master Furniture Upholsterer.

I invite you to look over my portfolio which contains some of  my best works from me.

When I started my Business:

In 1994 I opened my own furniture upholstery shop. I find it both rewarding and somewhat liberating from a 9 to 5 existence.

My shop has always been located in my home, which gives me great freedom and flexibility to be a better father, provider, and husband. By having my shop in my home, it also allows me to keep cost down and quality up while creating a friendly personable local shop.

And I plan to keep it that way.
I am usually the one who answers the phone, all the mails, and will be the one who meets with you. I pretty much do 95% of the work. My wife and daughter help from time to time in the shop. But again it's pretty much "Just little old me."

As for my skill set in upholstery, the majority of my time and skills have been focused on home furniture and Antique restoration. This also includes larger boats. From time to time a speed boat or fancy car will come my way, but it is not my main focus or skill set.

I have focused on things as diverse as repairing new La-Z-Boy recliners to total restoration of Circa 1600s parlor chairs. If you would like to see some of my work then please check out my portfolio.

As you look at my work, you should know that most of my work comes with one of the industry's strongest warranties.

My Warranty an Overview:

I warranty the majority of my upholstery and restoration work for 5 years from any workmanship defects including parts and supplies I provide. This includes HR seat foam again for 5 years. Fabric sold through my shop is warranted for 1 year.  I warrant my basic "wrap and tack" upholstery work  and repair work for 1 year including parts and supplies except for HR foam which is 5 years.

At this time I know of no other shop that offers this long of a warranty and none that I have seen have in writing.

Yes, you are free to buy fabric from whom ever you wish, and I'm glad to say it will make no change to price or warranty on workmanship. Sorry but your supplied fabric is not covered under any warranty.
Although other's fabric is not covered by my warranty, the workmanship and seam thread is.  In other words if your fabric frays sorry not covered, but if the thread, or staples, or new foam fails within the warranty period, then you are covered regardless of where we got our fabric.
.
So go ahead have a designer help you, or have a look at Joanns and save some money, but let me offer these words. Please let me have a look at your fabric before buying. Not all "Upholstery Fabric" sold by a fabric store is worth the price. But there are some really great deals out there. Just call me before you put down your cash and then bring something that will not serve you well. I promise to not talk you out of anything that is a great deal for you.

Furniture and Upholstery Repair:

As for repair work such as fixing the frame on a new sofa or fixing a broken spring on your favorite recliner, there should be no problem.  Give me a call or e-mail a picture and I'll give you a bid.
For larger furniture I can usually do this work in your home even during the evening or a weekend.

It's doesn't cost anything to get an estimate over the phone or via e-mail.
All repair work is warranted for 1 year on parts and workmanship. Seat foam core is warranted  from going soft or losing it's shape for 5 years. I only use HR foam.  This is pretty much an upholstery shop foam. Fabric stores don't usually carry it and manufacturers generally don't use it. It is a bit pricey but it is really good foam hence the 5 year warranty even on shape and firmness.

Note
: Ever read the warranty for foam on new furniture? Most is usually covered for 5 years, but it is limited. It does not cover the foam losing it's shape or getting soft.  Odd, I Wonder why? Well, foam goes bad in 2 basic ways other then rot after 50 years. It is when it loses it's shape or gets soft.

What I Offer:

For an estimate on any of these themes please call (360) 377-4389 or e-mail me at

 billeisenberg@gmail.com

I offer 4 levels or Themes of service while maintaining high quality and the leading quality labor guarantee.

Upholstery Theme levels:

Antiquities Service

Estate Service

Design Service

and

Home and Garden A.K.A. Magazine Service.

For the most part, the 4 themes are a "Snap Shot" view of the kind of service and depth of quality each represents.

Antiquities Service:

Antiquities Service is pretty rare, Not to many of us want or need this level of service. This is for those of us who are looking to restore antique and collectable furniture back to their original quality, style, and integrity.  This is a total frame up restoration.

In this Theme, the main goal is to preserve and restore the upholstered furniture back to original using the same upholstery processes, products, padding, and methods that the original designer and craftspeople used when the furniture was first produce 100, 200, or 300 years ago.

If needed, I will even "Spit Tacks" to recreate what the furniture was intended to be centuries ago.  This Theme focuses on total restoration and is that of a conservator not only of the upholstery process and supplies but also of the furniture itself.  All work is done fully knowing that 30, 40 or 80 years from now, the furniture will need to be restored in some measure again.

Knowing that all furniture needs to be restored to some extent over time, great care is taken to "Do No Harm" that might jeopardize the usable life and integrity of the furniture. Sometimes it is as simple as knowing where and when a nail should not be used and other times it's knowing the proper way to tie springs.

This level represents the highest quality and guarantee. I know of no other shop that offers a guarantee on labor and supplies for 5 years. The only exception is the fabric. Because every fabric is different and many of us use designers to help pick and provide fabric. When you provided your own fabric, it is not covered under the 1 year warranty, or even at all.  Fabrics that I recommend and that is purchased though my shop are guaranteed from defect for one year. And that means pretty much everything but soil, stains, abuse, and accidental damage.

Estate Service:

Estate Service is for those of us who have older high quality furniture that they gained from an estate of a loved one, or who wish to pass on to loved ones when the time comes.

In other words, this Theme represents the preservation of meaningful relationships and memories.  I realize that this sounds a bit odd to a few when talking about a sofa or chair, but many many times a year I get "Grandma's chair" or "Dad's old leather sofa." Or the chair you want to leave to your grandchild.

Furniture is part of our life and part of our memories. In this knowledge we go from being an upholsterer to being a conservator of memories of loved ones and of loving times. We all want to keep the good memories of love and care and shelter even if to find it in the open arms of a chair that once held the one who held us.

I've had many people come to me with their "Mom's chair" remembering the loving person who held them on their lap and read to them as a child.  Mom's gone but the feelings are remembered and passed on by the musings inspired by a chair. I agree it sounds a bit poetic, but this is what I hear on a regular basis.

I base this Theme on taking great care to preserve the integrity not only of the furniture but also of the past, present, and future memories inspired by the chair or sofa. This preservation is done by providing high quality workmanship. Workmanship again is based on the practice of "Do No Harm."  To many times a chair will come in that was "Grandma's" that now needs more than simple upholstery.  It needs major repair work because a shop was thinking "Low Bid" and then taking badly executed shortcuts that damage the furniture and the memories. Rather, it should be a reasonable price with quality of knowledgeable workmanship preserving longevity of the furniture.

I believe so strongly in my work at this level, the Estate Service, that I guarantee it for no less than 5 years. The work is covered from failure or defect of any kind from the date of delivery. Because I personally choose only high quality supplies, I can also include supplies and foam supplied by my shop for 5 years as well. The only exception is fabric which is 1 year.

Design Service:

Design Service level is for those of us who have higher quality furniture like  Drexel or Handrandon and know that they can save quite a bit of money having their high quality sofa or chair reupholstered for far less than buying new high quality furniture.

And that the quality of your standard $700 to $900 sofa doesn't come close to the quality of what they have now. Ask me, I've opened up everything from $400 sofas to $5,000 sofas and you get what you pay for.  The price is low or high for a reason.  Don't even get me started on low cost leather furniture. If you only knew what's under that leather.

But back to high quality furniture again, the other day, I looked up Drexel online and found a standard Drexel attached pillow back skirted sofa that has been a staple of Drexel's line for 30 or 40 years starting at $5,120.00.

I realize this is the suggested retail and many retailers run sales and specials but still $5,000 in today's price based market is a lot for a starting price for a high quality sofa. But you do get what you pay for, so if someone has already paid for quality they are far better off keeping that investment.

The chances are that a 10 or 20 or even 30 year old Drexel or other real quality brand might only need a bit of freshening up in frame and spring and padding to make it ready for re-upholstery. So the cost might actually be pretty minimal considering a new Drexel or Woodmark or Norwalk.  (Please Note as I reference a name brand like Drexel or Norwalk, I refer to what I have seen over the years in quality. I cannot vouch for what is sold or built now nor am I making a pitch to buy these brands. Simply I have seen some nice quality and workmanship from these companies and believe it is good enough to reference here.)

As with the Estate Service, all work at this level is guaranteed for 5 years. This includes supplies and foam as described in my Warranty.  And yes fabric you supply is not covered, fabrics I recommend to you that you buy from me is guaranteed for 1 year from defect.

Home & Garden or Magazine Service:

Home and Garden level is very common. This is a level for those of us who are not specifically seeking the highest of quality and highest of service but are, to a great extent, the "Do It Yourself" crowd. We spend hours looking though magazines and watching Home and Garden TV looking for great ways to get an existing room or sofa or chair a fresh new look without spending a lot of money.

In many ways we are serial remodelers. Always dreaming of ways to make our home warmer, nicer, and more engaging, and price is a consideration. More bang less buck might be the motto.
In short, this Theme is about putting new color and texture on a sofa, love seat, or chair without doing much in the way of frame, spring and padding work. In a way, it can be thought of as an attached slip cover, high on impact but low on reconstruction. But it would look great in a "Design Magazine."  And this offers the best visual impact to price I offer.

This level is guaranteed on workmanship for 1 year and since most people bring their own fabrics there is no fabric warranty and no exceptions.  If you get your  HR foam though my shop it is guaranteed for 5 year from losing its shape or getting soft.

Another note, pattern match is an add-on for this Theme. That is to match a stripe or plaid or floral pattern is extra.  Think wrap and tack not tailored and restored.  Great workmanship but not high detail for this service theme.

For an estimate on any of these Themes just give a call (360) 377-4389 or e-mail a photo and I'll answer all your questions. But if you e-mail, please let me know your phone number. Sometimes 5 minutes on the phone can save 30 minutes of writing. I'm not a telemarketer so I'll never call you unless invited to.

Well that pretty much sums up the upholstery services offered.

Also consider Classes I teach:

Ok, although there is one more service I offer, the full do it yourselfer. Yes, I also teach a class.  At this time it runs $160 for a hands on class where you bring in a chair and we work on it together. I teach it once or twice a year depending on demand.

In the class, I brake down the basics of upholstery and show you how you can build an upholstery tool kit, recommend a book, show you how to organize your project, and start to finish  it in a part by part process to minimize problems.  I also give you tips on picking fabrics and supplies. As a direct impact of taking this class, you will probably know more about upholstered furniture then most furniture sales people and even more about antique upholstered furniture then many antique dealers out there. If you are into antiques this class is worth it just for the knowledge in antiques alone. The class is taught at the Silverdale Joann's Fabrics and signing up is done by contacting them. The class runs from 6 PM to 8:30 PM or when they kick us out. It is held on Wednesday night only.

Give Joann's a call for more information. (360) 692-1300

Also here is a link to Amazon to find the book I use for my class.

There is also a new "Plus" issue as well They are both a very good books.

All right,  if you don't want to spend any money and you really want to do it yourself and you really want high impact worthwhile information than you are really in luck or that is soon will be.

I am working with Joann Fabrics of Silverdale to teach a free twice monthly class on upholstery. This is a "Stand and Deliver" class where I bring in a project or a lecture and just show you how to do a project or step to a project. It is not a hands on class but I will answer questions. The class is booked at 30 minutes, but I will stay for up to 2 hours if the project needs it or we get  a lot of questions.  This will most likely happen late in 2009 or early 2010.

All right then how about this, you don't want to pay anything and you want to do it yourself, and you want to learn from the comfort of your own computer.  Then you are in luck of the luckiest. I am producing a on line upholstery class  video series that is 100% freeeeeeeeeee!

I call it the 52 week "It's a Wrap" challenge. It's a challenge because I'm challenging myself to create a 5 to 10 minute video for online and download viewing each and every week on furniture upholstery. So come back, come back, come back as I work hard but not too hard to take up my challenge.

It's "It's a Wrap" because they will be fast, content rich videos that will have very little, if at all, editing. They will be taped and put right online. No editing and no set design just tip and process of the week. So sorry, no cinematography awards here. Just high impact high content rich upholstery information.  My goal is to just get as much information out to you as quickly and easily as possible. I simply cannot afford to do this if it takes hours and hours of my time. So bear  with me, it's about content not polish.

Also I'm going to do my best to get other people I know in the industry of antiques, furniture, and design to help build some of these videos. I'll either have them do the video or have them tell me what to tell you on the video.

I really look forward to this project. So come back again, and again, and again.

Please do me a favor, If you are interested in my creating free on line videos then please let me know.

Just leave a note on my blog  no sign up needed.
